NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF STRUCTURAL STEEL WORKPIECES UNDER HIGH-TEMPERATURE THERMOMECHANICAL TREATMENT BY HELICAL ROLLING
DOI: 10.17804/2410-9908.2026.3.078-088 The paper presents a numerical study of the stress-strain state of structural steel workpieces subjected to high-temperature thermomechanical treatment by helical rolling. This technology ensures obtaining the specified dimensions, shape, and surface quality of products and simultaneously improves significantly their physical and mechanical characteristics, this being especially important for parts operated under severe conditions. The problem statement and the procedure of simulating the deformation process using the DEFORM-3D software package are discussed in detail. The paper studies various loading patterns, the effect of the rotation angle of the deforming rollers, the reduction ratio, and other process parameters on the formation of stress and strain fields in the workpiece. Emphasis is laid on analyzing the distribution of axial, radial, and tangential stresses, as well as on identifying radial-shear strains. The simulation results show that varying the ratio of the process parameters, one can control the material structure and properties, create hardened surface layers, and minimize loads on the tool. It has been found that the application of high-temperature thermomechanical treatment by helical rolling increases the ultimate strength, ductility, and durability of products compared to conventional heat treatment. The significance of mathematical modeling for optimizing process conditions, reducing the number of full-scale experiments, and accelerating the introduction of innovative metal forming methods into mass production is emphasized.
