THE PROBLEMATICS OF PREDICTING THE QUALITY OF AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES MADE OF POLYMER COMPOSITE MATERIALS

DOI: 10.17804/2410-9908.2026.2.019-027

This study addresses the issue of predicting the quality of aircraft structures made of polymer composite materials. It analyzes the experience of the global and domestic aviation industries in implementing polymer composite materials, using the Boeing 787, Airbus A350, and MC-21 aircrafts as examples. The heightened and specific requirements for the mechanical and operational characteristics of aircraft structures made of polymer composite materials are highlighted, stemming from their anisotropy, sensitivity to impact damage, and the influence of hygrothermal factors. The study identifies a fundamental problem, namely the lack of a generalized methodology relating manufacturing process parameters to guaranteed operational properties of the final product. Based on this analysis, a relevant scientific and technical problem is formulated as the need to develop a predictive model enabling the implementation of the core process–material–structure principle. As a solution, the concept and structure of a multilevel hybrid predictive model are proposed. The model integrates deterministic physical and mathematical modeling, statistical uncertainty analysis, and machine learning methods.

Keywords: polymer composite materials, aircraft manufacturing, quality prediction, process parameters, operational characteristics, mathematical modeling
